Construction Manager

Gehrtz Construction Services (GCS), a Construction Management firm headquartered in Fargo, ND, is hiring a full-time Construction Manager. GCS provides construction management services for the full spectrum of commercial projects and is well known for superior customer service and agility in the fast-paced work environment of construction.

Description

As a Construction Manager at GCS, you will play a critical role in leading and coordinating commercial construction projects from inception to completion. This position requires a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and timelines while ensuring quality and compliance. This role involves frequent travel and may require temporary weekday residence near active job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate commercial construction projects from start to finish.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, contractors, architects, and project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and analyze contractor bids to ensure competitive and qualified selections.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance and proactively address any issues or delays.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve project challenges to maintain progress and quality.
  • Review, manage, and approve change orders and project budgets.
  • Facilitate and contribute to weekly construction meetings with internal and external teams.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop, update, and manage detailed construction schedules.
  • Provide accurate 4–6 week project outlooks to support planning and resource allocation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in construction management, with comprehensive knowledge of construction practices, processes, and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and drive project success.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • High emotional intelligence and sound judgment in decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, or similar) is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with AIA contract documents is preferred but not required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work remotely, including staying near project sites during the work week.
