Construction Manager – Remote-Based

Gehrtz Construction Services (GCS), a construction management firm headquartered in Fargo, ND, is seeking a Construction Manager to join our team. This full-time, remote-based role involves regular travel to project sites across the region and will require weekday stays near active job locations as needed. GCS provides construction management services across a wide range of commercial projects and is recognized for its superior customer service and agility in a fast-paced construction environment.
Description
As a Construction Manager at GCS, you will lead and coordinate commercial construction projects from inception to completion. This role is ideal for a proactive leader with 1–5 years of experience, strong technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and timelines while ensuring quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate commercial construction projects from start to finish.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, contractors, architects, and project stakeholders.
- Coordinate and analyze contractor bids to ensure competitive and qualified selections.
- Ensure contractor compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor contractor performance and proactively address any issues or delays.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve project challenges to maintain progress and quality.
- Review, manage, and approve change orders and project budgets.
- Facilitate and contribute to weekly construction meetings with internal and external teams.
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with timelines and deliverables.
- Develop, update, and manage detailed construction schedules.
- Provide accurate 4-6 week project outlooks to support planning and resource allocation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
- Minimum 1-5 years of experience in commercial construction or construction management.
- Familiarity with construction practices, materials, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic leadership skills with a willingness to grow into a more senior role.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety.
- High emotional intelligence and sound judgment in decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, or similar) is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with AIA contract documents is preferred but not required.
- Must be willing to travel and work remotely, including staying near project sites during the work week.
