This project consists of the historic preservation and renovation
of the Bristol & Sweet Harness Company Building located in downtown
Fargo. The 5-story building, which was constructed in 1916-1920, has
a 7,000 SF footprint and consists of heavy timber framing with exterior
load bearing masonry walls. The main floor was renovated into new
office space for Zerr Berg Architects and Gehrtz Construction Services,
bringing prominence back to the unique and historical structure. The
upper four floors consist of 28 loft-style apartments, ranging from
efficiencies to 2-bedroom units. The interior features restored original
terrazzo flooring, maple millwork, and contemporary finishes. The
replacement of windows matching the original, larger size fills these
spaces with natural light, and provides views of downtown Fargo. A
second interior stairway replaced exterior fire escapes while a secure,
handicap accessible entrance and new elevator are provided for apartment
residents.
